A Feather in a storm!!!
It seems that the Shirley family is aware of a plethora of problems we as a nation face. This is good. Awareness is the first of many steps towards finality. I seem to know what everyone is thinking from this blog and conversations I have had with every
one. To name a few:
Illegal immigration
Public school system
National deficit
National debt
War in Iraq
Price of Oil
Terrorism
Gay marriage
Abortion
Single parent homes
Lack of moral fiber
Taxation
Health Care
One sided news media
The point is, all of these "problems" are solvable. However, we as a nation are not solving them. We as the Shirley family are not solving them. You here a lot of rhetoric and see very little action. What concerns me is that while we all seem to be aware of these problems, we are offering no viable solutions. The reason we offer no viable solutions is that we are not in a position of power to implement them. Our national leaders are in a position to implement solutions but they are listening to the American people. Unfortunately, the American people seem to have lost their way. IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!! And for our leaders IT'S ALL ABOUT VOTES!!! Which for them IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!
If you want to make effective change then either become a political leader or work to fill our leadership positions with political leaders that can lead this nation in a more sane direction. As of right now I see no sane applicants for this job.
I am glad everyone is aware of our national problems. But, do not spend too much time dwelling on these problems lest you will miss out on a lot of what life has to offer. Rather than waste our energy on frustration, we can use our energy to effect change all around us. In our relationships with others we can ask ourselves how we can make life better for the other person. IT'S NOT ABOUT ME!!! What can I do that would make me a better person for knowing someone? What can I do that would make someone a better person to have known me? When we are at work can we do something that would make our company, unit, office, crew, etc. better off because we were a part of it. Did we give 110%. Were we a team player. Were we cheerful and friendly even around ass's. Can we accept critism and improve from it. Or, is it ALL ABOUT ME!!!
I am 53 and I still remember that a scout is:
TRUSTWORTHY
LOYAL
HELPFUL
FRIENDLY
COURTIOUS
KIND
OBEDIENT
CHEERFUL
THRIFTY
BRAVE
CLEAN
AND REVERENT
I remember this but I haven't mastered it yet. But, I am still trying. I pray that we could all be aware of the things we can change and the things we cannot change and use our energy to change those things that we can. We also need to use our energy to keep those good things we have from changing.
When I think of all these national problems I feel like a feather in a storm. I am noticing that when IT'S NOT ABOUT ME, the feather seems to float more serenely.
